This service is a very particular service created on purpose to offer our costumer a big variety of tours. It allows you to have a complete and general overview of the Christian Rome. With our comfortable and brand new cars/minivans you will have the possibility of being driven where big busses cannot go by low. In this way you will really see more, walk definitely less and enjoy it all!!
The tour normally starts at 09.00 a.m. from your hotel in Rome where one of our driving guides (perfectly bilingual) will be waiting for you at the reception.
After having left your hotel the first stop of your tour will be the smallest Basilicas that we have in Rome: Saint Mary Major. Built in the year 352 AD it is a great example of early Christian art with its wonderful golden mosaics and the very important tomb of Bernini, the artist that immediately after Michelangelo transformed the look of our city. From the name of the basilica you can easily imagine that this was the first place ever built for the cult of the Virgin Mary.
The second stop, after this wonderful Basilica will be another Basilica, the oldest Basilica of Rome, actually considered the Cathedral of the city: Saint John in Latheran. Built by the emperor Constantine, it was the first residence of the Popes. You will be surely enchanted by the beautiful baptistery, the relics of the table of the Last Supper and the Holy Stairs of Christ's Passion. The Stairs are actually placed right next to the basilica and I tell you they are really touching.
After this second Basilica we will head toward the Appian Way, the oldest road built by the Romans for military purposes to reach the southern part of the Empire. In there we can stop for a quick visit to the Chapel of "Dominus Quo Vadis".
Again driving down the Ancient Appian Way, we will find the Catacombs of Saint Callixtus for a memorable tour. The present catacombs are a series of underground galleries and vaults of various sizes. These were holy sites where Christians buried their dead "brothers" and came to pray and celebrate liturgy hiding themselves from the persecutors.
After the visit to the Catacombs it will be time to return to the Hotel.
