ROMAN COUNTRY SIDE
Italy is surely known for the Tuscan Countryside but remember that the Roman Countryside has its own charm as well.
After one of our driving guides will pick you up at the port of Civitavecchia at 08.00 am (as you disembark the ship you will see him/her holding a sigh with your name on it), enjoy the wonderful drive through the enchanting Roman Countryside. Villas, old housed this is just part of what you will be able to admire on the way to the first stop of your tour.
After around 90 minutes driving you will firstly reach the lake of Albano, a volcanic lake located indeed in the crater of an extinct volcano. Then you will head for Castel Gandolfo where the Summer Residence of the Pope is. Enjoy a little stroll throw this picturesque medieval town, up to its little square. Right in there we will the chance to have a memorable lunch with plenty of home-made pasta and wine.
In the afternoon the tour will continue toward Rome, the Southern part of the city. You will be driven through the APPIAN WAY, the first military road built by the Romans to have a safe access to the Southern part of the Empire. Along this road you will have the possibility of visiting the tomb of CECILIA METELLI, a great mausoleum of young Roman noblewoman that lived during the time of Julius Caesar.
Always along the Appian Way you can also visit the enchanting and interesting Catacombs, built and wanted by the Christians during the time of the persecutions to practise their religious without being killed or persecuted.
Continuing the driving you will pass by the Caracalla Spa, belonging to the same Emperor Caracalla , today still standing thou visible in its overwhelming shape.
It will be then almost time to get back to Civitavechhia where you ship will be waiting for you.
The tour normally ends at 05.00 o'clock at the pier.
